It was a long time coming, but finally the first rooftop bar in Redmond, Oregon has arrived! Although Central Oregon has some gorgeous views, you will really enjoy the killer views at The Rooftop at the SCP Hotel in Redmond, Oregon! It made its grand opening without much fanfare, but since every one is anxious to try it, and the rooftop doesn’t have many tables, reservations are required most of the time.

Rooftop bar with a view in downtown Redmond
My husband and I and a couple of friends were wandering around downtown Redmond, on a sunny September afternoon, just enjoying the beautiful day. We were hoping that we would be able to go to the new rooftop bar in downtown Redmond, OR (just around the corner from General Duffy’s food truck lot) for a quick bite to eat and to check out the views. It is always fun to try a new place in our little town, so we were excited to try the Rooftop at the newly renovated, historic hotel in downtown Redmond.

The killer views atop the SCP Hotel in Redmond
The rooftop lounge atop the now called SCP Hotel, was said to have a beautiful panoramic view, so naturally we were anxious to take it all in. There aren’t any other rooftop bars/ lounges in Redmond, Oregon, and after watching it under construction for many months, we were finally going to see what it was all about.
We entered through the bottom floor doors of the new SCP Hotel which was slated to open in November. The hotel lobby was beautiful, with wood floors, and a bright, fresh modern feel . We were greeted by a nice woman who informed us that if we didn’t mind sitting in the atrium that we could get a table right then. We were thrilled that we could get a table so quickly, since we didn’t have reservations. She pointed us in the direction of the elevator and up we went to the rooftop.

Upon exiting the elevator, we were treated to a whiff of both fresh air and something cooking that smelled amazing.
The Rooftop is an intimate, 1,500-square-foot indoor/outdoor dining space and the only rooftop experience in the city of Redmond. Guests are surrounded by the serene native garden and outdoor seating provides panoramic views of the Cascade Range, including Three Sisters volcanic peaks (known as Faith, Hope, and Charity), Mount Bachelor, Black Butte, and Smith Rock State Park. The social garden offers a locally-inspired small plate menu, along with handcrafted cocktails featuring herbs, fruit, and spices grown amidst The Rooftop’s own gardens.
The atrium at the SCP Hotel
The rooftop bar in Redmond is 1,500 square feet, with options to sit indoors in the “atrium”, or outdoors in a cozy “cubby” with comfy couches. Although we weren’t able to sit out in the sunshine, our table in the atrium was just as pleasing. It was bright, colorful and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the killer views at The Rooftop at SCP Redmond
A rooftop restaurant in Central Oregon
We were seated at a tall table for four in the atrium section of the rooftop. It was decorated attractively with foliage overhead, cacti in pots on the tables and of course a beautiful skylight. The walls were adorned with shelves with carefully placed colorful metal watering cans, dried flowers and colorful tall jars. Our water was served in dark green glasses – very pretty!

Small plates and cocktails are what the menu consists of at The Rooftop. As we perused the menu, we were impressed with the hand crafted cocktails. They had a few “low-octane” cocktails to choose from, for those who prefer a lower alcohol content. They offered a few Kombucha drinks as well. Our friends ordered cocktails (what they ordered escapes me now, but they did like them very much).
The food at The Rooftop bar in Redmond
We were a bit hungry but not starving, which is just as well since. they primarily offer small plates. We decided to share a menu item – the Northwest Cheese Board ($14)
The menu items that were more individualized weren’t foods that everyone would typically order (the Bison Burger, for instance). It would be nice if they just had a regular beef burger option, and perhaps a few sandwich options. The menu wasn’t expansive, however, they just opened, so we didn’t know what their future plans were for the menu might be.

Small plates offered at the Rooftop Bar
The Northwest Cheese Board arrived fairly quickly. We couldn’t identify a few things right away so tasting them was how we found out what they were. There was a little wedge of Brie cheese and a few thick chunks of aged white cheddar cheese – both of which had nice flavors. Those two cheeses were the best thing on the board. I took a bite of the cheese surrounded by cranberries and it was awful. I assume it was goat cheese in the middle, which I realize is an acquired taste, but it just didn’t taste good to me. The pear slices were just… pear slices. The crostini was very good, I just wish there was a bit more on the plate. There were some little “crisps” with sesame seeds and nuts, and I enjoyed them very much. The description of the cheese board made it sound a lot better than it actually was, but again, they just opened, so I don’t know what might be in store food wise.

The killer views from the Rooftop at SCP Hotel in Redmond
After lunch we walked around the outdoor portion of the rooftop and it really was beautiful. The rooftop has panoramic views of the most scenic places in Central Oregon. The view included Black Butte, Mount Bachelor, Smith Rock {good ol’ Monkey Face!}, and the Cascade Range, including Faith, Hope, and Charity – the Three Sisters.
The Rooftop at the SCP Hotel also has their own little garden. In fact, the handcrafted cocktails offered on the menu feature fruit and herbs which have been grown in The Rooftop’s own gardens!
How is the service at The Rooftop SCP Redmond Hotel?
Our server was very friendly and the service was great. She made us feel welcome and thoroughly explained the menu and drink options.

Final thoughts
The ambiance was pleasant and welcoming, and we were so happy to finally try it. The city of Redmond really needed something like this – a new and exciting dining concept in the downtown area. With the beautiful views in Central Oregon, why wouldn’t we have a rooftop restaurant? I think this could be a really great place if they had more food options {larger portion options, salads, and perhaps a few more cocktails}.
Now in all fairness, I wrote this post shortly after our visit, so I have no idea what changes they may have made since we visited. I guess that means it is time to visit again!
